On March 12th, 2026, founding partner Vince Colella argued before a federal judge that the State of Michigan should be held accountable for the death of Chayce Allen.
Chayce was three years old when he was murdered. State records show that Michigan CPS had documented his abuse across multiple investigations, stretching back to when he was just two months old. Despite that history, the case was closed. Five months later, Chayce was gone.
The State was asking the court to end this case at the pleading stage — before a single deposition is taken or a single document is produced under oath.
Vince became a civil rights attorney because he believes the government must be held to account when its failures cost innocent lives. Chayce Allen's death should not go unrecognized. His story deserves to be told — fully, publicly, and on the record.
We are in this fight for Chayce, for his family, and for every child in Michigan who depends on a system that must do better. At the time of this publication, we are awaiting the courts decision.
